PROPOLIS LEBAH MENINGKATKAN ANGIOGENESIS PADA PROSES PENYEMBUHAN LUKA

Background: Angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels, is an important natural process required for healing wounds and for restoring blood flow to tissues after injury. Propolis contains of high flavonoid that can accelerate wound healing process. Objectives: This research was experimental study to find out the effects of propolis extract to angiogenesis on process of wound healing.
Methods: Twenty Wistar male rats 2-3 months, ± 200 g weigh were incision on anterior gingival of mandible. The rats were divided into 2 groups. Group I was treatment by 1 mL aquadest as control and the group II was treatment by 0,09 g/kg propolis in 1 mL aquadest. Each of the groups was divided into 2 sub groups. Each of the sub groups composed of 5 mice based on the period of termination, i.e.: 3rd and 7th after incision. Histological evaluation was done to investigate angiogenesis by calculating new blood vessels.
Results: The data were analyzed by independent t-test (p<0,05). The results on the 3rd day showed there was not significant difference (p=0,220; p>0,05) and on the 7th day showed there was significant difference (p=0,003; p<0,05). Conclusion: This research showed that propolis extract could increase the angiogenesis effectively on the 7th day after incision.
